-- Time Never Grows Old --
John Herlihy
Time never grows old,
Only we humans who age.
Marching onward, bold,
Pretending to be a sage.
Time has its own style,
Depending on one’s age.
The young child infantile,
The old man turned sage.
Time wears heavy feet,
Hours finally fill a day.
Seconds as a drumbeat,
Moments things to say.
Time’s story always told,
Its lessons fill the hours.
Brief time our lives hold,
One unique life as ours.
Time’s pen on our skin,
Written in indelible ink.
Never to end or begin,
Its circle a closed link.
Ever new, forever young,
The shoes of eternity to fill,
In a web of mystery spun,
Until time’s heart lies still.
