-- I Sing of What Is Lost --
John Herlihy
I sing of what is lost and yearn for what is missed,
As I journey onward into the cave of the unknown.
I sing of things found and give thanks for things blest,
All our joys and sorrows in the tapestry of life sewn.
I sing of intimacy in rare moments of my life bound,
The vulnerability, the strength, the purity of emotion.
I sing of innocence that only in childhood be found,
Little children as fallen angels who live with devotion.
I sing of life’s mystery in a magical world unexplained,
An emerging bud that in this world will never bloom.
I sing of life’s beauty in the world of nature ordained,
Mountains, forests, rivers, lakes to fill many a volume.
I sing of all things visible that fill the vision of the eyes,
Cresting waves, sea light, the tenderness of moonglow.
I sing of all things indivisible that only God can devise,
Rotating of planets and galaxies their grace to bestow.
I sing of the music whose sweet melodies fills the ears,
Grand basso profundos, lyric arpeggios, the sad adagios.
I sing of the harmony that creates music of the spheres,
Teardrops of sweetness in the majesty of grand pianos.
I sing of my weaknesses so vital lessons may be found,
Lack of discipline, failing willpower, fear of the unknown.
I sing of my strengths that I may live a life profound,
A keeper of promises, extended trust, in virtue bound.
I sing of the fortune of life found in the spirit of breath;
My little world forging a world of disharmony and discord.
I sing of our earthly demise found in the spirit of death,
As we pass thru the sun door with one final sublime cord.
