-- Spring Flowers --

John Herlihy

Spring flowers bend,

But they do not break.

Transient beauty lend,

Stirring onlookers awake.

Such intoxicating perfume,

Their universal token.

From bud to bloom,

As their hearts open.

We offer lovers flowers,

To make a clear statement.

In the unfolding petals – powers,

Elevating the present moment.

Daffodils – a kind of prayer,

Clear proof of resurrection.

A blessing to ward off despair,

Flowers speak of perfection.

We wait patiently for them to come,

Those spring flowers never disappoint.

Hearts filled as if something is won,

Nature's beauty our souls to anoint.

A delightful, colorful poem about our fondness for spring flowers. But the most common daffodils and tulips are far from their original natural forms, having been bred for centuries and the bulbs even having value in currency as early as the Middle Ages.

I like the natural wildflowers the best. Here in Houston, we don't often see the Bluebonnet unless it is planted. But ubiquitous Primrose pops up anywhere there is disturbed, and sometimes, poor, soil.

Nice John! Flowers are just a reminder of the glory of Jesus and the downfall of Darwin. Creation is created by a very creative creator. There is no passing down links or chromosomes from one beauty to another. All are unique and all provide us with a sense of wonder. Enjoy and God bless.

Even pushing through a weed patch, the flowers you speak of know when they are needed and deliver. Out my window across the fence into the forest and creek a few feet away I see them often peeking at me during the early spring.
