-- Our Secret Is Safe -- John Herlihy We live our lives as if our secret is safe, Do our business pretending to be a waif. Yet we enter places we must never explore, Self-serving wrongs that in others we abhor. Everyone can see the mask worn on the face, The depths of the heart reveal another place. There lies hidden all the bad things that we do, All the things we would never admit we knew. We pretend to ourselves that nobody knows, Others may suspect but they can only suppose. Truth to tell, we are all rowing the same boat, Our hearts seem protected by a secure moat. We think we are alone, a myth that isn’t true , This a secret of ourselves that we always knew. Yes, I don't believe there is a person who is perfect in their character. But for some, it is a lot easier to live with than others. When found out, it can be a great embarrassment, or even, a loss of everything the person has built in their life. A total disgrace. Perhaps even, jail time.

While conservatives seem to be masters at covering up evil doings, perhaps more enlightened, progressive, and even liberal ideas will help those with dark secrets not be so afraid living with their secrets hanging over them nearly all their lives.

A rousing wake-up call for everyone deluding themselves into thinking their secret/secrets are safely tucked away. Yes, the eye of the soul is one's greatest ally and greatest enemy depending on the respect it is given. Loved this piece and the picture you chose was a great metaphoric image. A lyrical warning to all... pay attention to the soul's eye.
