-- The Whirling Dervish --

By John Herlihy

Ecstasy of the whirling dervish,

Whirling about in feverish pitch.

In the circle of stars sparkling,

Light in the heart pulsating..

In the absolute circle – center,

Divinity as one’s only mentor.

The unbearable lightness of being,

The blind eye now innerly seeing.

Dancing in the embrace of surrender,

The one thing needful to remember.

Good-bye world, no longer to miss,

Such blessed ecstasy as total bliss.

There in the embrace of the One,

In the warp and weft of light spun.

ENJOYED, MY FRIEND, THANKS! LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

There was no agony in this ecstasy. From my own experience, I have found myself lost in the music and dance. Two powerful influences on our mental processes that take us out of ordinary life into what you describe as an other world devoid of earthly grounding.

Very nicely done. Of course, there is always the heightened experience between two individuals in love that also reaches a very high emotional state.

Interesting take on this ritual-like dance. Your last stanza makes for a wide interpretation of the poem. Enjoyed this.

Subject matter reminiscent (to me) of Rumi, who would meditate, fast, and dance to enter into a state of enlightenment. Using the "warp and weft" of weaving yarn (in context) was inspired. Well done, John. Beautifully spiritual. r

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
