-- Things I Don’t Want to Know -- By John Herlihy There are many things I do not want to know, Never question what lies in wait for tomorrow. I don’t want to know a friend will me betray Let friendship thrive until arrives the fateful day. I don’t want to know that this love will turn false; Let me feel intimacy of this heart-pounding pulse. I don’t want to know that this precious life will end; Let me savor all the minutes and hours our lives lend. I do not want to know the many variations of sorrow; Let me take today as it comes, not worry of tomorrow. I do not want to know of days filled with despair; Let me face my difficulties with the diligence of prayer. I do not want to know that some days I will feel lost; Let me look forward to being found whatever the cost. I do not want to know the exact day I will come to die; For then all my minutes and hours will be a haunted sigh. Much wisdom, but I don't think that you will solve your difficulties with prayer� But with due diligence and hard work, any difficulty can be erased.

The more I know about the future, the better off I will be. Especially if I'm able to arrive at legitimate solutions before that happens.

This is a good lesson for me, John. I always want to know. I want to know everything no matter how horrid or sad, or scary. What�s THAT about, I don�t know�.but I want to. These couplets are great. Not only do they portray maturity, but the yin/yang in them is a beautiful �wholeness,� �Two halves of the scarab, Aladdin, therein lies the power,� Jafar says. So unforced are these lines that it took me half-way through their journey to realize they rhyme. THAT�s good, unforced writing! ~~ djl {P.S. � favorite one is the 4th couplet :) }

Very satisfying closing to a richly imbued piece of honesty... the likes of which few attempt. Congrats. To separate the want and need of values or rewards in life is difficult for the best of them, but your have done it admirably. Kudos.
