-- Letters to Nature’s Emissaries -- by John Herlihy Dear firefly Bearer of light into the night Dear butterfly Bearer of beauty into the light Dear rose Bearer of perfume to the nose Dear thorn Bearer of protection to the rose Dear wind Bearer of breath to the breast Dear sparrow Bearer of worms to the nest Dear snow Bearer of peace to the mind Dear braille Bearer of words to the blind Dear sorrow Bearer of the tidings of gloom Dear happiness Bearer of petals of a bloom Dear silence Bearer of tranquility in solitude Dear sound Bearer of melody as plenitude Dear moonbeam Bearer of magic in its gleam Dear North Star Bearer of mystery from afar To all of you the same request I patiently await what you suggest To reach beyond myself I aspire All of you my mind inspire Reveal what I do not know Your light in my heart to glow From one, ever eager Yours truly, a seeker - - - - - - Copyright © John Herlihy Tuesday 24 October 2023
