-- Our Best Selves --
by John Herlihy
At first, we don’t know who we are,
Innocent infants fallen from a star.
It takes time, eventually we mature,
A far cry from our fallen state pure.
Unearned innocence we quickly shed,
Our minds explore as our hearts bled.
Our moon’s phases live joy and sorrow,
Our days pass but we live for tomorrow.
Thru misery and suffering, let’s not pretend,
We awaken knowing that this life will end.
On the road to perfection, we exult, grieve,
With firm hope our best selves to achieve.
Where am I going with the talk of all of this?
Seeking the balance between agony and bliss.

Few poets have that kind of discipline. I just settle for an acrostic once in a while. While you go for broke with every daily poem you post.
