-- What I Can and Can’t Imagine --

by John Herlihy

,

I can imagine living my life until its end;

I cannot imagine that my life has an end.

I can imagine what my life journey will bring;

I cannot image what this journey will never bring.

I can imagine coming into the presence of God;

I cannot image living without my belief in God.

I can imagine that life brings with it some sorrow;

I cannot imagine the depths of other people’s sorrow.

I can imagine the bright light in upholding the truth;

I cannot imagine the dark forces behind upholding lies.

I can imagine what it means to be faithful to a cause;

I cannot imagine what it means to betray a cause.

I can imagine the wonder of stars in the night sky;

I cannot imagine the night sky without any stars.

I can imagine the night’s darkness bathed in moonglow;

I cannot imagine harsh winter without the peace of snow.

I don’t have to imagine what it means to be loved;

I do have to imagine what it means to be unloved.

I can imagine the bright light in upholding the truth;

I cannot imagine the dark forces behind upholding lies.

Another prize statement. Perhaps not being able to imagine "dark forces" conveys a sense of safety, but we all have to be aware that whether we like it or not, AI is going to make lies truth, truth lies and convince even more than old orange face has been able to do. Thanks for posting.

At times it's hard to even understand our own depths of sorrow, let alone another's. (4th and 9th couplet resonated with me) For some reason, reading this brought this to mind. “To love, or have loved, that is enough. Ask nothing further. There is no other pearl to be found in the dark folds of life.” Victor Hugo, the Hunchback of Notre’ Dame, Les Misérables. Thanks for sharing.

I love this John! I'm crying as I read it. The Universal Soul came thru your pen.
