-- Our Secret Is Safe -- John Herlihy We live our lives as if our secret is safe, Do our business pretending to be a waif. Yet we enter places we must never explore, Self-serving wrongs that in others we abhor. Everyone can see the mask worn on the face, The depths of the heart reveal another place. There lies hidden all the bad things that we do, All the things we would never admit we knew. We pretend to ourselves that nobody knows, Others may suspect but they can only suppose. Truth to tell, we are all rowing the same boat, Our hearts seem protected by a secure moat. We think we are alone, a myth that isn’t true , This a secret of ourselves that we always knew. Respectfully expressed these words that know not deception. Secrets are such innocent realities in that they are sensorial objects of the mind and heart that always seek shelter from discovery. You bring out the mystery of why we choose to go the direction of hiding when to express that which we make secret from its inception avoids the personal stigma of concealing. After all, to be genuine, one has only to express the threatening concept to someone, be it man or beast. Of course, that is merely my own attitude. For me something is not secretively hidden if projected out, even if by selective choice. A hurtful truth need not be told to the whole world. That part of life that is directly made to love, not hate, to remain being dealt with without lying is perhaps the most important. Of course, I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time. But... as the cliche goes, such an experience in not my first rodeo. Learned to avoid secrets the hard way.
