-- Nagging Doubts --

John Herlihy

Nagging doubts will inevitably intrude,

Always there our certainty to preclude.

Those nagging doubts rear their ugly head,

Thus putting certainty on the line instead.

Light makes shadows from innocent forms,

A comforting shade the bright light adorns.

We think we know a thing only to wonder,

Am I right or wrong, it all feels like thunder.

Sinister questions creep silently on cat’s paws,

Imperiously roaming the mind with gaping jaws.

Then there are the doubts that we actually enjoy,

Undue certainty an arrogance others may annoy.

Never stifle a doubt that can question life’s mystery,

Unexpected pathways can lead to lasting certainty.

ABSOLUTELY! ONE CAN TAKE A NEGATIVITY AND ALLOW IT TO LEAD THEM INTO A POSITIVE ARENA. I AM ASTOUNDED HOW THE WORD OF GOD IS SUBSTANTIATED IN OUR DAILY LIVING; "..FOR ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD...". NAGGING DOUBTS CAN BECOME A STEPPING STONE, INSTEAD OF A SNARE. THANKS JOHN. We've all had them and you have captured them in this poem so very well.

As my short-term memory starts to fade away I find more and more doubting what I did yesterday.

Yes, doubts have the ability to wreck your peace of mind. Perhaps the answer is staying busy with your mind's focus, never without something to improve, fix, or solve as a challenging problem. Thanks for posting.
