Why does sadness feel so heavy

When it has no true weight at all

An overwhelming feeling as crushed

To a pulp, all sense of self-identity gone

It doesn’t even matter the cause

Sadness being the scourge that it is

Who am I but the sadness within me

Playing violin strings on its own terms

The having, the losing, the missing

The burden, the weightiness, the stress

The emptiness now filled with sadness

Life goes on with sadness still there

In the blood, in the veins, in the bone

Sadness sets up residence in the mind

The soul puts sadness in its proper place

Sadness stamps its loyalty with indelible ink

Burning as a smoldering fire without end

We wait not for sorrow, sorrow waits for us
