-- Grief --
by John Herlihy
What is our grief but the tie that binds,
To see the world thru darkened blinds.
Hearts be heavy with a sense of grieving,
Grieving with no room for any deceiving.
A solid weight on the ground of the heart,
An uninvited guest who will never depart.
With passing hours our grief does not lessen,
With acceptance our grief in time will soften.
Soon we forget the grieving still be there,
Nestled within as feelings of sacred prayer.
Heaviness as darkness to give way to light,
Moonglow texture in the mystery of night.
A grieving heart never emptied, always filled,
Filled to the brim in a heart never fully stilled.

sometimes we forget it is still within…
Our lives change at its inception, and we live and
grow alongside it to the end…your words capture
it’s essence perfectly…

I have experienced periods of loss and depression, but I never experienced grief. Especially when a close relative passed on. Maybe I will before I die. But I'm beginning to doubt it. I may be one of the few fortunate ones who haven't experienced grief over some great loss.
