-- The Traveler’s Tale --
by John Herlihy
The traveler’s tale reenacts adventures sublime,
Thru valleys, beyond mountains, the journey mine.
Overland on earth’s carpet under heavenly skies,
Listen carefully to the wind to hear ancient replies.
Treasure beyond reckoning under heaven’s dome,
The journey begins until it ends in the divine home.
We make our own destiny through acts of free will,
The mind as inner sanctum, the heart’s cave beats still.
My inner compass guides me, blessed by inner belief,
Upon a life journey as spring, summer, autumn leaf.
Enslaved we surrender upon our earthly indenture,
As we journey under the stars in a great adventure.
The bauble that is the earth, as a plaything, as a marble,
From deep space an orbiting vision blue, a true marvel.
We each create a traveler’s tale in this world of wonder,
Under blue skies, summer storms, and distant thunder.
A traveler’s passing thru one’s days in a life that is brief,
Until the autumn of our lives when we float as a fallen leaf.
We surrender to the Lord, accept our humble indenture,
Until we begin a new journey, another great adventure.
