Entreaty

by John Herlihy

Purify my senses

That I may fully explore the world.

Clear my mind

That the mist may disappear.

Slow my mind down

That I may learn the art of patience.

Settle my heart

That I may experience a well-earned peace.

Polish my soul

That I may rid my shield of its rust.

Forgive my sins

That I may enjoy the fruits of mercy.

Untie my knots

So that the ropes will uncoil.

Increase my knowledge

That I may find wisdom in my ways.

Lay down my path

That I have a sense where it comes out.

Give me purpose

That I may see in advance my destination.

I make entreaty

That I may see the light.

To Your will I surrender

That I may enter the light.

TAKING THE TIME TO PRAY, IMPLORE, TOUCH, ENTREAT, REACH OUT...TO GOD...THE MAKER AND KEEPER OF THIS WORLD AND ALL THAT IS IN IT...IS A NECESSITY...LIKE THE 'AIR' WE BREATHE. AMEN. SO ENJOYED, JOHN. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

An 'Entreaty' John, that reads (for me) like an intermingling of Islam, Christianity, and Buddhism. Very unique. Thanks for sharing. rlc

Reads like the beatitudes. All cracked all you you want to hope for in your entreaty.

I was going to title my poem yesterday, See the Light, but when I went to put it on my webpage, that url was already taken. I had already written a poem of that title. I had to work another hour and revise the poem a bit to change it to Discover the Light.

How you can write so many poems and not come back to this name title or subject is beyond me. I'm struggling with my few poems coming back more than too often.

As I often do when reading your work, I am reminded of the power of relying on oneself in the quest for unfettered happiness. Here again, you've sparked that ember into a calm but constant flame in me that will keep the depths of my self-forgiveness and gratification for the sorrowful parts of my experience remaining an intrinsic element in my archive or life. This gives me the paradoxical challenge to review the highlights and joys that, without some disappointment, are difficult indeed to realize.

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
