All That’s Left of Me John Herlihy All that’s left of me A few more poems Waiting to be written Poems once inside me Now taken leave of me All that’s left of me Moment by moment breath Until I lay me down in death Spirit breaths keep me alive Living breaths to survive All that’s left of me Memories on borrow Some residue of sorrow Still another tomorrow To the sea all rivers flow All that’s left of me One last abiding hope Still climbing God’s rope Ready to reach the heights A destination in my sights All that’s left of me Willingness to be alone Pared down to the bone A single, solitary stone At ease here at home All that’s left of me A comforting silence A steadfast reliance No need for more words Only the tweeting of birds All that’s left of me No more rejection One last question Are we ready to ask The true self to unmask All that’s left of me The serenity of solitude The comfort of quietude The beauty of beatitude The promise of certitude All that’s left of me The body lays empty The mind stands at rest The heart feels full I bow to the One Blest - - - - - Copyright © John Herlihy Wednesday 5 March 2025
