Making Excuses

John Herlihy

I do not like to make any excuses,

I’m more inclined to take the blame.

We make mistakes, commit abuses,

We are arrogant, then we feel shame.

We need to confess to being wrong,

Not everything that we do is right.

When we’re happy, we sing a song,

Making mistakes can feel like night.

A leaky faucet requires maintenance,

Create solutions, not a list of excuses.

Satisfaction can be found in repentance,

Trial and error our sure success induces.

Showing no mercy displays a form of abuse,

Showing no forgiveness offers no excuse.

FULL OF WISDOM, INDEED. ONE OF OUR 'LOOMING' HUMAN FAILURES IS THE INABILITY TO ADMIT....WHEN WE ARE WRONG. IT IS ONLY WITHIN THE LIGHT OF TRUE REPENTANCE THAT THE SOUL IS HUMBLED, WHERE CONFESSION AND A CRY FOR GOD'S MERCY CAN BE MADE AS ONE SEEKS FORGIVENESS. INSTEAD, LIKE YOU SAID...WE MAKE 'EXCUSES'....TRYING TO RIGHT OUR WRONGS. THUS, SEEING THAT WE ALL HAVE BEEN THERE, AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER IN OUR LIFETIME... I CAN ONLY SAY WHAT THE WORD OF GOD SAYS, PARAPHRASING; '...WHEN I WAS A CHILD I SPOKE AS A CHILD AND UNDERSTOOD AS A CHILD, BUT NOW THAT I AM GROWN...I PUT AWAY CHILDISH THINGS...' AMEN. GREAT SHARING, DOWN TO EARTH AND INSPIRING. THANK YOU. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Those who refuse to admit to their faults and expect someone to take the blame is abuse. Better to admit to a mistake and not use excuses, makes one a much better person.

Showing no forgiveness offers no excuse.

Being able to forgive others and oneself, is one of the greatest
virtues, nicely penned John, as always your muse is Diamond !

Good advice in a poem. Why is it that so many have such little self-esteem that they can't take the rap and have to come up with some lame excuse when they make a mistake?

During my working life, and even after, I always went after the big moves. Often where others failed to tread. And I made mistakes, big mistakes. But as soon as I learned that I made those mistakes, I would get busy and correct them if I could. If not, it was easy for me to say I'm sorry and sleep at night.

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
