The Sadness of Our World John Herlihy The sadness of our world is not to be believed; The happiness of our world there to be deceived. Two lamb ewes abandoned with the mother dead; Their little legs wobbly, their eyes filled with dread. A piece of the heart lost with every final goodbye; The air is quiet, yet the breeze utters a timid sigh. All the things left unsaid with every word spoken; All the hurtful things said our misery to betoken. The hopes left behind that once our dreams filled; The promises broken that once our minds stilled. A love once flourishing that deadened as love lost; An emptiness to face that our future days accost. The happiness of our world there only to deceive; The sadness of our world we must face and believe. - - - - - - Copyright © John Herlihy Wednesday 18 November 2020

YOUR EXAMPLE OF THE LAMBS IS KIND.. FOR, IN THE FACE OF THE PRESENT ATROCITIES INDEED, THE SADNESS OF OUR WORLD...AS IT TWIRLS PROPHETICALLY TO ITS END... WOULD PROVOKE ONE TO CRY AND NEVER STOP CRYING. HOWEVER, HOW GRATEFUL WE ARE FOR THE ENCOURAGING SCRIPTURE; '...ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD FOR THEM THAT LOVE GOD...' SO, NO MATTER HOW BAD IT LOOKS, GOD IS STILL VERY MUCH IN CHARGE. THUS, THIS WORLD'S DEMISE...IS THE BEGINNING OF OUR ETERNAL TOMORROW, AMEN. THANKS FOR SHARING, JOHN, GOOD WORK. I loved the connecting picture of a bear with a toy teddy...It is so representative of how we all feel when sad, don't you think? We want to reach out to at least touch somethhing, a hand, a hug...
Being sad has become the norm for today. These words reflect what we each may need to know, for we sometimes don't realize that we are, indeed sad... The poem is personal, empathic and sympathetic to any reader... Kudos on this one, John

Now that I think of it because of your poem, I realize that's so many in our world do not lead peaceful happy lives. So many are repressed and struggle every day just to live, let alone be happy.

The sadness of the world is indeed a calamity of human weakness. We attempt to find and or create happiness, but more often than not, the obstacles become overwhelming. Still, those of us who can make it through the razor wire and mud flinging, have the opportunity to offer alternative behaviors that could result in happiness. Oh, so elusive is this principle of purpose.
