Nothing As Sad

by John Herlihy

Nothing as sad as the sadness of a child,

The tears flow freely as if from emotions wild.

We don’t expect to see a child lost to tears,

Happy the days should be in their youthful years.

Yet they too have feelings often difficult to bear,

In their innocence, before bed, they kneel in prayer.

They give themselves to the sad emotion with abandon,

Touched by misery that is anything but random.

They feel things much more than what they think,

Their thoughts race on with a nod and a wink.

Sadness washes over them like waves on a shore,

Only to flow back into the ocean and return no more.

Then suddenly, they perk up and begin again to smile,

Forgetting that they have passed thru this harsh trial.

WELL, CONSIDERING THAT SOME CHILDHOOD SADNESSES ARE SUPERFICIAL ENDING QUICKLY, BUT THEN...OTHERS ARE QUITE DEEP, LASTING WELL INTO ADULTHOOD... I AM INCLINED TO SAY THAT, IN ANY CASE, I AGREE WITH YOU; THERE IS NOTHING QUITE AS SAD...AS A CHILD'S SADNESS, INDEED. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

So well put together. Sadness does wash over like waves.

Children are much more likely to express their emotions. But in time, they find that doing that may create more harm than good and they steel themselves away in what they call adulthood.

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
