A Memory in Someone Else’s Mind
by John Herlihy
Am I a memory in someone else’s mind,
A memory that no one else can ever find?
Loved by someone that I knew in the past,
Intense emotions destined forever to last.
How pleasant to think I may be still there,
Quietly remembered as a kind of prayer.
I know certain people still live in my mind,
All the generosity, how faithful, how kind.
Someone I loved still existing in the past,
An intense memory into the future to last.
A relationship easily thought of as tender,
One that often returns I fondly remember.
Even when I am gone, I may continue to live,
Memory in another’s mind still willing to give.

On the other hand, when I recall a memory that I have from say, the first grade, someone else has the same memory, but different. That someone else is my twin brother. We weren't separated through much of school, so we have the same memory of the same things, but his are often different from mine, and he corrects me. That's good because sometimes, what he tells me brings back that memory in my mind again, too.
