On My Way

by John Herlihy

People ask me why

Why do I do what I do

Why, why and again why

Why not rest with what I knew

And I can only answer them

Why? I don’t know why

Why rest with what I knew

I gotta go where I’ve not been

Until I can say to myself

I’ve come this far

And I’m done with coming

I can’t go no further

Now do you know why

Well then, get up and go

Go where you want to go

For the sun has risen

You can stay home

In your rocking chair

But I’m heading out

On my way

WELL, ME...? I HAVE NO YEARNING TO TRAVEL, AT ALL AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THAT WAY. HOWEVER, I CAN UNDERSTAND THAT...ONCE AN 'ADDICTED WORLD TRAVELER'...ALWAYS AN 'ADDICTED WORLD TRAVELER'. IF, ANYTHING THOUGH, WITHOUT ANY PUNT INTENDED...I DO THINK ONE SHOULD THINK SOBERLY ABOUT THE CHALLENGES THAT AGE DOES PRESENT. AS, AFTER ALL...THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE THE COMFORT OF 'HOME'...YES? FINE WORK, THANK YOU. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

I am with you. There's so much out there to enjoy. The vistas are so varied and so are the people. Universally, the people are friendly, good and kind. Not like we see and hear in the news.

Unfortunately now, I do my travels through the Discovery, PBS, History and other television channels where I go where no one has gone in a single lifetime…not even you.

People just look at me with perplexed expressions and ask, "Why?". I'm pretty sure it's because I baffle them sometimes!

Your poem is inspirational, and is written with a light touch. I like it!
