Moonstruck
by John Herlihy
A silver maiden riding high in the clouds,
Playing a seductive tune on violin strings.
The beloved moon wrapped in shrouds,
Gliding thru the darkness on shadowy wings.
Set in the earth’s rotation but never turns,
Moving in silence, the colossus never heard.
When gazing at the heavens, the heart yearns,
Touched by nature’s wonder, bereft of any word.
The appearance of the moon leaves us breathless,
Waxing and waning over time with multiple faces.
Nightly over the horizon as we stare speechless,
Harmony found deep in space by the moon’s graces.
Governing cycles of fertility, tides and human moods,
Afflicting people with madness as the moon broods.
Madly in love combining lunacy with loving romance,
Leaving the moonstruck adrift within a mystical trance.
Moonstruck by the magic of love’s mysterious obsession,
Dreamy passion and enchantment woven into lunar longing.
Capturing the irrational nature of love’s consuming passion,
Blending awe and wonder into a sense of spiritual belonging.

I doubt if we would be here without the moon.
