“In order to really enjoy a dog,
One doesn't try to train him to be human;
The point of it is, to open oneself up,
To the possibility, of becoming, a dog.”
Edward Hoagland
Life was getting me down
It was a dark, stormy day
I didn’t know what to do
I had the blues, yesterday
As I sat around, in my gloom
I looked over at my loyal mutts
Tater quickly brought me his leash
He is a dog, who has taught me much
I found him, nearly five years ago now
A lone, brave, survivor, on our Gulf Coast
And since that day, he’s always reminded me
It’s the simple gifts, we should cherish the most
So old Tater and I headed on out
And soon, it began raining like hell
Tater looked up at me, and he grinned
He thought this rain shower, was swell
Then, he looked up again, and he opened his mouth
He began drinking rain, and it dribbled down his chin
Before long, I found myself doing the very same thing
When I looked down at good old Tater, man, did he grin
After quite awhile, the rain storm ended
And the good old sun, began to peek out
As Tater and I now walked along, together
Several beings now began scurrying all about
A huge grey squirrel, began chattering in a tree
A tiny mourning dove, began cooing, very merrily
A pair of robins, began digging for worms, quite busily
And, because of my sage friend, I was once again happy
Life was getting me down,
It was a dark and stormy day;
So old Tater took me for a walk,
Animals teach me, in so many ways.

Animals are great at cheering us up. And we know, matter what they will always love us. Beautiful tribute to Tater. Perfect song.
