The Meadow Green

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

I took the above photograph Saturday out behind the place I work.

On most days there are 15 or more deer in this meadow as well as turkey,
rabbits and fox.

The Meadow Green

I stood alone at the edge of the soft green meadow watching the deer play.

I could feel the somber weight of all my yesterdays heavy on my shoulders;

Yet I carried the hope and promises of a beautiful tomorrow in my eyes.

The warm silence enveloped me; teaching me patience as I quietly dreamed.

And there my tomorrow stood waving at me at the end of the meadow so green.

Her smile was as sweet as a flower; her eyes shone as bright as a hundred suns.

Soon each weight that I had carried so long began slipping off one by one.

I took two steps forward and in my heart I started feeling lighter than the spring air.

She took six steps and I eight more; soon we shall meet at tomorrow to forever share.

Though today it is but a dream, yet I know in my heart that soon that tomorrow will come.

For though I am a dreamer; I see also from that of a realist as two that were separated by yesterdays

at last through small steps meet in the meadow green and softly embrace as one.

These lines say it all:

"I could feel the somber weight of all my yesterdays heavy on my shoulders
Yet I carried the hope and promises of a beautiful tomorrow in my eyes..."

Allen, your work shines with gratitude of lessons, learned. Well done.

(((HUGS))) love and continued prayer, Karla.

A picturesque graphic narrative of your encounter with nature's lovely creatures, for always they will teach us the essence of inner peace...
and patience. Beautiful Allen.
