Chains Of Fortune

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Wednesday, January 7, 2004

Lapses of time,

turn cruel tricks

upon a weary mind.

While profane men seek,

to prey upon the helpless and weak.

Where to and whom must we turn,

if life’s lessons we are to learn?

For cruel are the affections of man,

Who devises evil and refutes Gods plan.

For they…through

Isolation, depravation and ultimate annihilation,

Scumble in the terrors of the fractured mind,

Leaving hope eternal wrapped in fortunes chains that bind.

For they offer no consolation to fatherless, children left dying.

So if vain is the help of man, and we strive no longer to seek,

What shall we say, when before the creator we alone stand?

“Forgive me Lord for I am only man, and therefore weak”?

Or shall the truth be told, that through the bitterness of our own soul,

We through the absence of love stole from the souls of the meek.

A "thinking man's" verse, I would label this,
were anyone to ask me.
Oh...they didn't.
Well, I commented anyway...hee hee.

The truth will be told, as the 'creator" knows all...Had to read it a few times to understand this one, Al, but once I did, it all fell into place, but I will forget by tomorrow, you know how drugs are...LOL? Peace, buddy, Ed & Rufuz
