The Braggart

Upon a time, not long ago,
in tropic land where it don't snow,
there lived a lion, brave at heart,
who dined on antelope a la carte.

He was dreaming of a different dish
that wasn't pork and wasn't fish,
that wasn't dog and wasn't fowl,
but something rather like a cow.

So one day, drinking at a pool,
he came across a juicy bull!

His tail tip flicked.
He licked his chops.
He crossed that pool in three big hops.

The bull, he snorted and tried to run
(which gave the lion lots of fun).
He caught that bull and brought it down,
then ripped it up from hoof to crown!
He drank the blood and ate the meat
in minutes--a tremendous feat!
And afterwards he roared and roared,
proclaiming he was still the lord!

A hunter heard the kingly sound
and followed it, tracking it down.
He found the lion in a glen,
loaded his gun and aimed, and then
he shot that lion through the heart,
and sold his hide at a Turkish mart.

Moral: When you're full of bull, you'd better keep your mouth shut!
