I just lost my mom. I needed to express what my first day after her funeral felt like.
MOM
I still can't grasp the thought that you are gone
cuz you were the rock in which I perched my strong
Forever in your debt I will be
and grateful for the heart that beats in me ;
Its the day after your funeral, and I am home alone
washing your favorite pink sweater in suds and warm
yes the one with the silver shiny threads
the one you loved to wear with a smile;
I also went through all your faux beads and trinkets
searching for those little flowers you clipped
atop your silver cropped hair ;
the ones you wore with unabashed flair...
The boah colored scarf is also in the soapy bucket
beside the pink sweater ;
Surrounded by all your belongings I breathe n' sigh
for I know that you didn't really die;
You turned into an angel and you are watching
from on high....

A loving tribute as you sift through your mother's things. A lot of memories coming forth as you do. I am still 1300 miles away from my mother and haven't seen her since 2011. Most recently on FaceTime about two months ago and on the telephone a week ago. She is 93 and hasn't much longer. It will be my sister who will be shifting through what is left of mom who has already given her so much, including all of those photo albums that we used to look at every time we got there over the great distances and years.
Makes me wonder if daughters in the future will be sifting through their mother's Facebook pages, blogs, and Twitter accounts.
A lovely, loving tribute to the passing of your mother. There will be more to come as time goes by. One never stops thinking (and the poet writing) about one's mother. In the Islamic traditions, Paradise lies at the feet of motherhood. No doubt, the shores of paradise are under her feet as well.
It one hits me so hard. I had gone through this emotion after my mom's passing. Nothing will ever be the same without my mom with me. You probably feel the same way too. Take care, sweet poet friend!
I recalled your prayer-poem 'Dear God' as I read. My Mom passed in 1998. She was 72. My heart still languishes at times. Elaine remains one of the most influential, and artistically gifted, people I've ever known. I credit her for much of my discipline and artistic aesthesia's. There will be much for you to sift through in the days ahead. I pray you will find peace. Beautifully written. r
Exceptionally written poetry. You must have had a wonderful mother. Your poem chilled me, such beautiful words, so soon after her burial. Amazing. May you always rejoice that your mother was one who wore a halo. I am very much impressed.
This exceptional book, Celebrating the Gift of Being Alive, has the perfect thoughts and words for birthdays, graduations, engagements, marriages, and any life celebration or family tradition.
Makes me wonder if daughters in the future will be sifting through their mother's Facebook pages, blogs, and Twitter accounts.
