they call women giving birth, labor
yes it is indeed very hard work
with a reward beyond payment

I have been told the arts are also
a labor of love, crafted in the soul
of all who endeavor to reach a goal

yet for the woman or man who rises
each day, who works just for pay
with little reward, I salute you this day

fifty two weeks, at least eight hours a day
three hundred and sixty five days a year
someone labors for others welfare

unseen souls abound, factory workers
repair men and women in homes
husbands and wives who work in fields

the kids who work as life guards
behind the counters at fast foods
in training for life's work and rules

Stand up with pride, on "Labor day"
recognize who you serve  in this way
who is really being paid

monetary pay will never be enough
for keeping this county greatest on earth
most I can say, I salute you this day
