I just wanted my walls painted
and imagined a big ol’ girl
would drive up in her truck,
get the job done and leave.
God sent Kathy,
a petite beautiful blonde
with a laugh so hearty,
the trees around the house shook with joy.
We hugged the minute we met
and couldn’t stop talking.
I finally left her alone to do her work
but I would not leave the house.
I waited for her lunch break
so we could sit together on the screened-in porch.
I had been in one of my “hermit stages.”
and it would have gone on for a lot longer
if God hadn’t sent Kathy.
We talked about sons and daughters
and husbands and seasons in life.
Kathy brought me to a place
I had needed to be for so long.
She made me laugh until I couldn’t breath.
And she made me want to see something
besides the walls inside of my house.
Kathy painted the walls a rich beautiful color
while gently tearing down the walls within me.
we do not soon forget the Kathys in our lives, do we, Janet? you had such a way here of painting the outline of the story over the underpainting of your emotional reality and highlighted with just the right details. a portrait of hope which was only possible because the walls got knocked down and made over. beautiful! Dawn
Fabulous! Wonderful in concept and composition... I'd say both she and the inspiration for this were a complete gift, Janet, and a much-needed tonic. Bless you - you sure deserve it! And, so true, that sometimes you meet someone who becomes a soulmate and a lifelong friend in an absolute blink of an eye. Beautiful when that happens - and that Kathy has coloured your introspective walls with such beauty whilst dismantling them brick by brick. A message of hope and encouragement for us all. TY Kate xx
There are only a few Kathy's in this world and we all know when we meet one almost instantly their love of live, kindness and humour affect all who come in their presence or have contact with them. You captured that aura very well in this poem.
Janet you have a descriptive way of writing, as if you were painting a picture. This is fantastic and as Sandie says last two lines are a knock-out!Kudo's
Janet, I know all about those walls we build, I've built so many. I am thankful that God sent Kathy to make you laugh, to tear down some of those walls and let you see sunshine again. God bless you always.
Sometimes our walls can ONLY be brought down by a stranger....those close to us are sometimes just too close to even see the walls. What an uplifting experience....for you in having Kathy paint your walls and for those of us who have read the telling of the tale. Great work Janet!
Pecked to Death offers a refreshing perspective on managing the chaos of everyday life, encouraging you to take control and prioritize what truly matters.
life's symbolism comes through in this poem ...

(didn't mean for anyone to get upset
by my poem. Thanks for your support
I'm like everyone else, sometimes if
I've been wronged I have to vent!;-)

Yes, sometimes we do build a wall around ourselves, and it takes another to knock it down for us.
What a wonderful friend you have met!
