She will never stop looking for him.

Poem Artwork

Lovely specter slowly walking
Mist of forest dusk she's seen
Lips move but there is no talking
Slightly floating o'er the green

Dusk she waits to find her lover
Where she met him long ago
He a soldier under cover
Had his way then let her go

Still her early evening sojourns
Centuries it's said she seeks
Gave herself oh how her heart burns
Moves her lips but never speaks

There is such a sense of melancholy in this piece, yet its chosen vocabulary gives it a positive identity for any reader. Very nice work here.

Reads like he had his way, his way, which was way too short for her; leaving her to wish that he had stayed to finish what he started… Dammit. So, she still waits, hoping for better, but never gets it. First as an old maid, and then a spectre--so sad.

I believe I ran into a couple of those old maids when I was dating. I believe they are still waiting for that warrior they're looking for to come back.

I love the phrase "moves her lips but never speaks," the perfect metaphor to express the longing implicit in this poem. We all have such longing, in whatever particular form it may take. Much said here in few words. John

Never give up. He is out there, trying to make it back to his true love.
