Death of a Loved One

I found and was taught love in this house!

Sorry to write twice on one subject but I just feel a loss tonight, one that may be a bit indescribable, but nonetheless a definitive loss!

Death of a Loved One…

Surely did she die,

I speak here in truths no lie,

I call it a she as it was never a guy,

She did die, she lies in waste, a pile of wood, fried…

An old friend and loved one has passed,

Nothing since she was born did outclass,

She was one of a kind, bred for greatness,

She did so, she made it great, one out of the masses…

Born of some native woods, also marble, mahogany and many coats of paint,

She supported a family, a family made up of loved ones, a possibly even on saint,

She survived several generations, two world wars, many arguments, and happiness’s,

Births, and deaths, and general family celebrations, all happily enjoyed within,

She survived pain, hunger, peace, rock n’ roll, and more recently maybe even some rap,

She watched over all that did enter, she seemed to live; her life-blood was her past…

She will be sorely missed, her walls, her doors no longer open to visitors & family alike,

She was an old home, I knew you understood this prior,

She was permanently retired by the recent fire,

Her past residents, the spirits that did inhabit and protect her and the family there,

Can now go on to a place that is, we hope, higher,

She did accomplish everything that could ever be required…

A tear I shed, more than one to be honest,

She did not belong to me, but I remember many a happy day in that house,

Grampy’s cigar smoke did permeate that place, as it did his office down the street,

When as a child I was scared, it was a place to go, to run away to, to retreat,

As an adult, now I can only remember the good times of that house,

I wish someone came along and noticed and did douse,

Now lying in ruin, her time at an end, she served her purpose,

She came to a violent but I guess fitting end…

Yes, Ed.. this is the poem that needed to be written about this horrible disaster. With her demise, she took walls of tales told within them.. her history lives on in the hearts of those who loved her. I think you poured yourself into this one and it shows. Keep her in your core.. where she is restored to full beauty. A marvelous work, dear Ed. You are a poet of deep revelations. This is proof. katy xox.
