Whats in a Name?

Speaking to the self about a decision that must be made, either way I lose, or so it looks right now...

WHATS IN A NAME…?

Cancer they call it,

Only attached to the prostate,

Still in all, the name, it brings on fears,

Of all the unnamed memories I did hear…

Should the problem, I fix,

Or wait and cross the river Styx?

Should I take the temporary layoff?

Or await my eventual payoff,

Or then again, be home for the playoffs…

The name it be cancer, the big C, slow death,

The taker of so much, including me (?), breathe,

Just did I learn of this a day or so ago,

Still am I making a decision regards my immediate future,

Couldn’t they just sew it up with a suture?

I am not happy herein; don’t want to take this decision lightly,

Don’t want to seem I am taking this quite slightly,

But I am really in a quandary,

On the one hand I can get a few months off of work,

On the other I don’t know if I will get hired back,

My boss is known for his lies and stabbings in the back…

What do I do, who do I talk too, where do I turn?

In the end, it is my decision,

Seems easier to just cross that river and allow myself to burn…

Ed, I am terribly sorry to hear this; and, of course, you have to make your own medical decisions. But prostate cancer can be treated - quite effectively. And there are many options available in its treatment. Both my father and my father-in-law had it; and they both died from other causes, not the prostate cancer. And I'm guessing that I will get it, too. But if and when I do, I plan to diligently go over the various treatment options - and there are quite a few - and pick one that sounds best to me.

You ask what to do - the Internet is full of sites that discuss this illness and the various treatment options. You can start there, then you can discuss these options with your doctor. Then you can decide on what course of action is best for you.

Cancer doesn't automatically mean 'you lose.' Hope you keep that in mind, my friend. And e-mail me if you need help in finding these sites.
