Cool one, Ed. Although not all haiku has to adhere to the 5-7-5 pattern we all grew up with. For example, Jack Kerouac experimented with stripping haiku down to its primordial essence. He didn't give an at's rass about how many syllables he should use. He merely used simple three line poems to convey his feelings. If you see his book of haiku in the bookstore, buy it. If you want to see a delightful example of how he wrote here on the den, check out Lori Moore's site. She's been writing some really wonderful haiku lately.
But keep writing more of your own. I'd like to see where you go with it.

Each written word is received in the manner of one's perspective. That is why it often appears that one has not understood a poem. They have, its just that they understood it in their way. All an author can hope for is that they touch the reader. Thanks for giving me a chance to add to your thoughts :-)
