You’re a woman of mystery; perhaps it’s the mustache… Woman with mustache’s, Men with earrings in both ears, Nose rings, belly button rings, Tongue rings and piercings, Is this the next generation coming for future years? Long hair on guys, Short hair on girls, Halter-tops for men, Women taking Phen-phen… Music going from rap to hip-hop, Back to rap then over to rock, Car stereos with more power than homes, Just put it all together in a sock… Punk is out, goth is in, Makeup on boys, girls committing sin, Technology running rampant, Children with no respect, be glad they are not a twin… No more spankings, “the belt” in retirement, No fear, no worries, treat them like adults, Then you will see the ultimate result, They will go out and join a satanic cult… Men and women, Boys and girls, Their voices raised, Their hair never in curls, They never speak of praise, Our future in their hands, Better to leave it in those of the bands… Perhaps it was the handlebar mustache, On the girl of twenty that set me off, Perhaps the boy of twelve with the sneer, His arm raised in a Hitler salute, Since when is twelve grown up? Old enough as well to shoot, Willing and ready to kill over a beer made from the root… © ed ~ 10/10/04

Had a customer come in with wormy type kid toys hanging from his ears. That is style, or something unique......ever generation will do something to freak out the other generation. A way of expressing their new found independance. I smiled at him while remembering the flowers on my cheeks.

Most of us still remember the "thinking cap" from school days... I do believe yours has evolved into a full, armored helmet! You've nailed it here, with just enough exaggeration (thank god!) to keep it from frightening some of us beyond recovery. You are on a roll, dear chum... a decidedly profound, muse-filled roll... Great stuff, these last several pieces.

I must admit, I couldn't begin reading right away, since my eyes were blurred from laughing at this hilarious title. Little did I know what would follow. You keep topping yourself, Ed. That's a good thing! katy xox.

actually this is an accurate account of youth today.....it scares me......i work in a school......makes me shudder for the future!

kids are basically sweet......but in mass they don't listen, and tend to go in waves of behavior......which is rough......especially for me, i am soft voiced, and its difficult to get 60 kids to quiet down and listen.....and then when you have 6 yr olds that want to challange you and fight over total BS.....makes me think.......wow......wait till puberty hits.......

they are gonna be MONSTERS!!
well maybe not.........
there is hope for all!!!

An interesting take on our modern world, Ed. And I fear many youngsters all around the world feel they are knowing adults by the time they are twelve now. Our modern fast-paced hate-filled world has robbed them of a childhood that should have been pleasant, not confrontational, as it usually is these days.
