I read that Lincoln and McClelland got into some pretty deep mudslinging in their time. But the worst candidates would have to be Jefferson and Adams. They hated each other. Why, Adams last words before he died were "Is he dead yet?"

I agree with your poem, ED; however, let's pay attention to what happens every election. As soon as one of the candidate's starts a negative campaign tactic, the one who refrains begins to slip in the polls until he or she begins to defend himself. If the candidate who's on the defensive attempts to defend by simply stating the good things about his or her own record, his or her ratings still slip in the polls. People don't believe, they believe the negative campaigner's ads.

So, probably after being advised by politcal campaign experts that he or she must use the same tactics as the opponents, the other candidate also starts a negative campaign against the the politician who initially started slinging the mud. Voila! They're both on even ground again.

The public seems to reward negativity. Most people don't take the time to check out facts. They believe what they're told in commercials. And that's why these things go this way. The candidates just want to win and some want to win at any cost.

I'm voting for Rufuz.

I agree with Ted, Ed. When I saw Kerry walking with that gun and those dead geese hanging and dangling with glazed eyes, I wanted to smuck that squinchy, toothy smile off his face...

When I look at Bush's face, I see Establishmet, albeit an exhausted, brow-beaten Establishment, but Establishment all the same...

Where are our heros?

Ed, Well said!!! If we were to believe every negative ad that we hear, the backers of those ads make it sound like the other person is so bad we should not only not vote for them, but it would be alright to put them in jail and execute them.

I agree wholeheartedly. It's like watching two 6 year olds squabble.

However, since I am a founding member of the "Anybody But Bush" campaign, the destiny of my vote is clear.

As too frequently happens, we must vote for the lesser of two evils.

Campaign adds should be restricted to factual information on what the campaigner DID, and what that campaigner promises to do. They shouldn't be allowed to speak about the other party, imo.

Wouldn't it be nice to be presented with their complete voting records, rationale for their votes, etc.? So many of the slings say "He voting against a bill to....!" And it sounds dreadful. But, many don't realize that bills often come in packages with a lot of other legislative bs packed inside. That is so things can get "slipped through" that otherwise wouldn't stand a chance. And that's a primary reason for someone supporting or not supporting a bill.

And so you should as long as you speak your words as you have. Frankly we both need new governments. The one's in place now are not working. Right idea's, wrong people running it.
