Insanity has taken my hand and led me astray

What weird thoughts do escape when I am sober, no longer high, till I find if I do get the job I did interview for...if so, no longer will I smoke, if not...?

Poem Artwork

Insanity has taken my hand and led me astray…

Am I crazy to write?

Am I nuts to look for what’s right?

Am I insane to delve deep into my own soul?

Am I wacky to try to keep score of the toll…?

Astray I have been led,

Past the house and into the shed,

Therein does lie insanities bed,

They keep me tied up there no longer am I fed…

No books to read, no poetry to write,

No light to see by, no sun in there so bright,

Better off I would be to fly high on a kite,

No worries would I have, my psyche so trite…

Overused and ultimately abused,

Never did I want to accuse,

Anyone of misusing my psycho-psyche to the point of being confused,

I find no humor anymore; I am just bemused,

For now I do hope you will allow me to just be excused…

Remember, Ed, back in the 60's, early 70's, we called ourselves "freaks"... it allowed us to feel separated from the mainstream, from the norm, from conformity... insanity, in some ways, has become a bit like that, when not clinical. We all have our insane moments... if using the word, even facetiously, perhaps can remove some of the stigma... and that's a good thing.

Check the back wall of your 'shed'... I'll slip you a copy of Catcher in the Rye, along with a flashlight to read by and some of my banana bread. (smile) Rest easy, dear heart... find calm. You will always write, just as you breathe... it's life-sustaining. katy xox.

I for one would hate it if you did not write because you are an inspiration. Besides there is a lot to be said for a man that loves his dog.
