What if...?

During my hundred or so mile drive home from my last stop, I get very thoughtful, and this is the result...

What if…?

What if there was no nine eleven?

Would I ponder so much about heaven?

What if my life hadn’t changed?

Would my travels have so far ranged?

What if I hadn’t met a certain few?

Would I today know any of you?

What if my life had remained the same?

Would I be querying the self as to my being sane?

What if Rufuz did not come to live with me?

Would I be anymore or less happy?

What if my life had gone in a different direction?

Would I still over the old get an erection?

What if I did not take anti-depressants?

Would I be alive right now to answer these questions?

What if I did allow old thoughts that I should not have,

Overtake me and allow me to do things I should not do?

What if I did just run away?

What would happen then I cannot say…?

The questions of our direction is one that I believe we all ponder at some time or another. We are here now, and that is what is really important. How we deal with what life has delivered to us will prove our ultimate desire to survive and thrive or just eke through the experience. Nobody ever said that the road to enlightenment would be short or easy...you just have to keep plugging along. Very nice write!
Take care,
Sherry

I never go there... never think like this. Interestingly, though, I was entirely captivated by your journey through the "what if" maze... Actually, I go from a different angle, I guess... thinking, 'hmmmm... I'm exactly where I am because of everything before this...' and then I put one Size Five foot in front of the other, pack my little lunch, and set off to see where I'll end up next! Life is an adventure. You write philosophically with panache, Eddie M... Lovely! (smile) katy xox.

I don't think you would run away, Ed. You don't look like the running type to me. You could walk away. And then you wouldn't be all sweaty and tired. Just be sure to pack plenty of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

I play the 'What If' game all the time, and I usually end up deciding that some of these choices were really not choices at all - they were just what life somehow had in store for us.

My favorite one is: What if my first wife had agreed to re-locate to Seattle with me because of a job I had accepted there? We would probably have still ended up divorced, but I would never have met Rebecca, or any of the animals that I have now.

Mind-boggling stuff, my friend.

We seem to be in like moods, today, 'meditatively,' Ed.
Even if all your questions don't get answers...keep taking
the meds...like I do. "What ifs" are the bane of the writer's
life. What would we do without them?

well we know about the rufuz part anyway...i often wonder about the other branch of the road too...would we be the same person if this or that had changed. i think you would rise to the top regardless

If change does not occurr no one grows. Sometimes events in our lives that seem negative is positive in the way it changes our flow of direction. Like the thinking process you have used in this. Great write.

I for one hope you do not run away and like everything you post. But I ask myself the same questions.
