Growing up a nerd

Growing up a nerd…

We point our fingers at them,

We laugh and call them nerds,

We snicker behind their backs,

But what is it that they, according to us, lack…?

They cry at the slightest things,

They are willing in crowds to just sing,

They want to be a part of the “in” crowd,

Not allowed into our cliques as they do hang out on the wrong cloud…

Peaceful though they may be,

Never to start a fight,

They try to be themselves,

But they are pushed around,

And treated like outcasts,

No wonder some of them kill with guns,

Those that did pick on them and call them in the loafers, light…

Gay though they may be,

Or are we using a stereotype?

What is all the, over this, hype?

They are just kids growing up,

Just like we were and are,

After being picked on by others,

Someday in prison they will wear a uniform that is striped…

It seems to be the time of the nerds revenge, actually. Look around, the top businessmen and the whiz-kids all seem to be nerds. There is a huge segment of amazing women who are enamored with nerds; many beauties on both the outside and the inside. The nerds seem to be winning and the bullys and the jocks seem to be the Used Car Salesmen who drink too much, smoke too much, live on fast food and within empty lives in lifestyles that are pushing them quickly to their graves. Good write, Ed!
Take care,
Sherry

All instruction manuals (especially computer ones) are written by the guys I mistreated in High School. They are getting their revenge.

Heavy, important commentary, Eddie M... and I say your telling of it has the sensitivity it needs, deserves, as well. I didn't appreciate being "odd" until well after graduating... but to have become one of "them" would have meant being stifled all my life. It's all about self-image... I wouldn't be a teenager today if you paid me... ok, well, depending on how much you paid me, I suppose. Great stuff here.

Why do you think we have that cliche "if only I could go back with what I know now"... eh, moving forward and outta here, then... katy xox
