The Accident…
Driving not long was I at seventeen,
He kept his car quite nice; always he did preen,
A 63’ Chrysler Three Hundred it was,
Mint condition till I started to drive,
My dad worried more about the car,
Than my driving and arriving alive…
On a dark back road in nineteen seventy-two,
A horse farm had an escape, these horses they could not subdue,
Ran into the road in front of me, I slammed on the brakes,
The second horse of the pair did the Chryslers rear fender break…
Called my dad from the police station nearby,
I told him a horse HIT ME, no dad I do not lie,
Hanging up he did after this reply,
He told me to call back when I was sober,
The cop had to call him back and tell him I did not go awry,
His beautiful car all dented and scratched,
But the poor horse did suffer more,
To horsie heaven he was forever dispatched…
