During a recent trip I took,

I spied a car with multiple dog stickers,

Closing in on this dog lover’s car I was to have a look,

I saw no dogs but could hear their bark,

The driver then did pull into a roadside rest,

As did I as I was purely curious & near her I did park…

She immediately did open the trunk,

And out popped four little pups,

I swear to you this story ain’t no bunk,

I flagged down a state trooper & to him the story I did relate,

He was on break, but went to talk to the lady, holding his coffee cup…

Surely carrying dogs in the trunk was not legal,

She had all four pups out for a walk,

And for a few moments they did talk,

He came away and returned to me with a smile,

Telling me that all the dogs were of the breed Beagle,

And they liked hiding in the dark of the trunk,

Though as well, her backseat and trunk were one…

So she committed no crime,

In & out of the trunk the dogs did happily climb,

They were all most well taken care of & safe,

But the initial thought of them being loaded in the trunk,

Certainly did make me, for one, chafe…
