I cannot sleep so I write or try to make something interesting enough for you to read & comment on...

Poem Artwork

The reaper hanging about my door,
Knocking ever so lightly four score,
Early in the morning, late at night,
It whispers into my ears,
Bringing about all my fears,
It wants me to join it,
To travel across the river of Styx,
Have I been thus far so negative,
That I deserve the ultimate punishment,
That only a dark angel can bring upon me,
So far I’ve ignored it, keeping to myself,
It cannot enter my abode; I must request entrance,
I hide in this my cave, my hermitage, my place of respite,
Still it lurks just outside, I can smell it & sense it,
It’s a black hole in time & space,
No light from without can penetrate it,
Only darkness from within is seen of it,
Or is it my own darkness I see & sense,
About this I am still on a fence,
Oh what the hell, I will let it in,
Serve it some food & drink,
And try to live with its stink…

I can't say it better than Ron, or as my dad always said. Still on the right side of the sod.

By my clock, you are not "four score," yet, although you act like it in poems like this. But, I see a change of pace at the end when you open the door to the possibility that you might like wallowing in the stench of death better than whining the night away.

By the way, some of your best use of the language yet.

My husband has gone through hell after this last chemo treatment which was just about the last option he had, he was feeling so bad everyday after the chemo he dreamed he even saw the light at the end of a tunnel beckoning him to go there, but he refused to walk to the light. He told himself it's not the time yet; then he came back.

I think you can refuse black hole by telling it it's not the place where you want to go. Whatever that beckons you, you can will yourself NOT to go there and tell it so.

A very suspenseful write that makes me think too.

A black hole beckons you,
River Styk the way through.
To carry you to hell,
Forever you will dwell.
But you must fight it Ed,
Write poems for us to read.
