Do not read this till after Easter as this holiday is supposed to be a happy, bright time...
Alone I was at birth,
Alone I will be when I die,
Alone I go to sleep,
Alone I awake,
Alone I live my life,
Alone is the reason why...
A handle on it I thought I had,
Pitch black dark feelings I have,
I struggle not to hate,
Not to allow myself to pass hell's gate,
Something has a hold on me,
Not even can help me, my mother the sea…
A lot of people can/will relate to what you have expressed through your verses here, Ed. It seems to be a part of this life/world for many; I can often relate. I think it is we do not truly "make friends" with our inner self; but, what do I know. Love, peace, and best wishes to you,
Ed,
I guess we have to ask ourself the question, is it better to be have lived in this aloneness than to have never lived at all. I know the "alone" doesn't mean simply being by oneself, it is the kind of stuff Richard alluded to. Sometimes the loneliest of feelings is when I am surrounded by a party of people, always wondered why that is exactly but I probably know the answer to that question.

Sorry that I'm reading this on Easter Sunday. I've been reading your dark thoughts for nearly 15 years and have found that your writing every poem has kept you from that dark side many times. And it will continue to do so.
I can relate buddy. There is a kind of emptiness in life that is undeniably palpable. And no matter how strong we become, or what we have, or dream of having, or have accomplished, or dream of accomplishing, this fact is fixed firmly in the fabric of our being to remind us that on this level of existence, in these failing human bodies, we are incomplete and always in need of something we cannot give ourselves; a daily in-filling, or invigoration, of the Most High's Spirit. Personally, Ed, I am always thankful for those moments when the absence of false hope and depression allow an exhilarating state of focus and optimism to co-exist together in a rich harmonious balance that produces the kind of life and thinking that reaches out and blesses another. Peace to you... richard
I'm alone, Ed. I understand where you are coming from, but I have pretty much accepted my aloneness and dealt with it. I have been alone pretty much all my life even through all the marriages, etc. But like I said, I have accepted it and dealt with it! I believe you are doing the same. Even the title of this poem tells me that.
Well, tell me not to do something and I'll do it so I read this poem.
Feeling alone is painful. What's worse is when you have people all around you and you still feel alone. I'd rather be "alone" alone than that. Hang in there. So many people care about you.

Demons abound. The struggle is in the journey,
holidays notwithstanding. An excellent write.
In the end, we are all alone.
