To get high or not to get high

I truly wish my muse would return full throttle, I really feel like I am just fighting to write something/anything...

Poem Artwork

I ask myself, do I wanna get high,
And further I say to myself why,
What is the draw to getting high,
But to be honest I cannot lie,
I sit here and toke, get the munchies,
And then I just want to eat pie…

Then my sugar goes way up,
And I feel more than a little high,
I have to take some insulin,
From a needle stuck in my thigh,
If I break the needle, then I cry,
Then I wish for adrenalin…

Where are the acid trip flashbacks,
That were promised me in my teens,
Only do I get them in my dreams,
Well, you know I will eventually get high,
All I want to do is, in the end, relax.

As long as you write something...you are writing!

Seems several of your commenters enjoy toking-the-Bobo-Bush as much as you do. I do not. I did, however, go through a season (about 10 years ago) when Scotch whiskey had me fully incarcerated. I slammed half a bottle a day (or more) for a coupla years. I developed so many physical problems, lost so many confidants, and became such a stellar asshole, I forced myself to stop. It's just not an option anymore. Speaking for myself: Health and clarity of thought is priceless.

Sometimes the things we fear most about aging - fluctuations, disturbances, imbalances - are the primary sources of creativity. I write most days. I believe the way to get good ideas is to get lots of ideas and throw the bad ones away. A good deal of what I write I delete. A persons thoughts can be a friend or an enemy. Maybe you can relate. Creativity matters, I'm sure for all of us, and especially as we age. But I've learned, and seen firsthand in others, that substance eventually muddles the thought-processes, and also interferes with the spiritual connections that impart the creative seeds to us. At this stage of life, the only addiction I have, is adrenaline. All the best... r

Fire that puppy up,
and toke away.
If I was there I'd help you,
and high we'd stay.

Stop Bogarting that joint, buddy. Pass it on. Other people want to get high, too, ya know. It's been so long since I got high, I'm not sure what it feels like anymore. If there was any chance of breaking a needle in my thigh, I think I'd have to pass, though. I suppose I'll just wallow in my self-imposed serenity.

Your vicariously-buzzed friend,

Scott

Sounds like a trip all right. Not all trips take us where we want to go, but at least we are on the road. Paradise will come later. Keep writing. It's the only way a writer's mind, especially a poet's, can survive. John
