“COUSINS”
I have a bunch,
Just wish I knew them better,
Remember when as kids,
We got together regular,
But as we got older, our paths went in varying directions.
Guess, to be honest, I labeled myself the “black sheep”,
Of our little family,
And that label, it kinda stuck,
So that now, I don’t get to have a family like most.
As one gets older, they seem to find that family is precious, even the lack of family,
We only seem to see each other now when someone dies,
Not the way it should be nor the way I would want it to be.
Have a memory of attending one cousins birthday party during the
summer months,
All his family attends, oh, that is hard for me, as I feel I don’t really belong, unfortunately,
I know that I have done this to myself,
But what does one do to clean up past mistakes?
Not sure I can grovel but that may be the only way,
To be able to visit my family & for dinner or whatever, stay!
If you’re reading this and feeling sad, don’t, as it is really my own fault,
But it’s been so long now and taking the first step by default.
Will be rather hard, in fact so hard that I feel I cannot do it,
Maybe one day, one of them will find it in their hearts to cue it.
Ah, to be a part of a my families holiday,
What a wonderful present that would be,
To feel comfortable & welcome, as it “should” be.
