As we age
we become more sage.
At least...
that is what we would like to believe.
However...
as I mature I am not so sure.
As we age
we constantly learn...
from the day we were born
to the day we enter the great beyond.
As we age
we learn many shortcuts
and a few tricks of the trade.
But...
as we age...
one trick is to remember
what it is that we have learned.
And...
as we age...
we soon see...
'tain't as easy as it used to be.
Here is a cheery way to look at life from another poet...
t’s that pre-warmed toilet seat
your mate left you.
It’s that basket of fries
your friend didn’t finish.
It doesn’t take much
to make us happy,
if we only make note
of what’s around us,
every day,
regardless of worries,
regardless of lack of
recognition.
In those moments
we can see
the circle of humanity
from death to birth,
yes, and birth to death.
Can we fertilize the ground,
make trees and grass praise us?
The happiness never ends,
so long as we notice,
so long as we care,
so long as we don’t ignore
what little things can do
to our spirits,
lifting us up
and beyond daily routines.
It’s that song
you were thinking about,
comes on the radio,
uplifts your mood,
an irresistible smile
envelopes your lips.
You are certainly right about that last line… The way I like to say that is, quoting you, "as I mature," (I turn to manure). ;-) And I certainly find that shortcuts are the only way to go trying to get done by the "last-minute."

Thanks for the "heads up." I need all the publicity I can get… ;-)
Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.

enlarging the heart.
Yeah, that.
I've learned a lot.
But what I've learned,
I've already forgot.
