More than four score
and seven years ago
I was born on the face of this earth.
The quality of my life now is not at its highest level.
Apparently time takes its toll on the human body.
Each day I seem to feel bits and pieces
of my mind and body dimishing away.
Thus...
I am learning to age.
Viewing life from the rear-view mirror...
I have a great deal to be thankful for.
Looking ahead...
I wonder what I can be thankful for.
So...
while walking on the bright side...
I am thankfful that I am still able
to be up and about to
moan and groan about a lot of stuff.
And...
for what little I have I am thankful.
Each day is greeted with breathtaking anxiety.
Thanks to COPD.
It is an adventure to walk from point A to point B.
Thanks to neuropathy.
The mind is extremely active these days.
Thanks to my poetry dabbling.
Now...
if I can only remember what I am doing...
I will be forever thankful.

I've known for some time that paralysis takes a big hunk of a lifespan. Hell, a lot of my old spinal cord injured buddies are gone, some much younger than I, like Christopher Reeve. So, I'm beginning to experience some of your symptoms. They are a pain in the neck, but inevitable. So, I'm going to enjoy them along with you… okay?
We all have that rear view mirror and at different stages in our life glance into it. "And for what little I have I am thankful" holds true for none of us know whether we have tomorrow. I found that out recently. Bless you, babe!

Thank you Jerry... If you are going to make it to a hundred... don't push it. DO, but don't OVER DO. Learn to pace yourself. A man of your vast experience should hang problem with that.
Oh John, I understand this write completely. At 77, I am ten years younger than you, but even the whipper-snapper that I am I too have begun to learn to age. My short term memory is becoming scary and I admit it to myself, dangerous. I have just found out I have cancer of the face, so my days here on out is not going to be as good as the days before. Good write, buddy.
