The dance bars were banned By the Maharashtra Government in its state in India eight years ago. It was reported that some 50,000 women in this business lost their livlihood overnight. Recently the Supreme court of India has revoked the ban and once again it is party time for the dancing divas. It is yet another means of livlihood for many but not always all are fine

 Dance Bar girls

“Bar girls swaying seductively.

Ogled upon, lechered and  showered by notes

Surely not  lured the  dancing damsels leeway

This the tale of these lovely doe eyed dames be

Graceful and quietly to soulful numbers atuned

Dancing  with passion , dearly loved so

She moves as though the end is now fearfully close.

With eyes on the glassed dance floors transfixed

Staring at  reflections of her own with minds adrift

Solace to many  who to seek them may be

Charming and styled  yet her life not all bright

Bares her heart to wannabe mates who care

Not many break away, wait all  life to make good

Heroines who rule the roost in the same game  go on

A price tag  attached for the show they make on

A pricy possession, she allures, enacts  and moves

But the bar dancers, beauties for real  most wait on

At times endless in struggle they are webbed

 Thoughts maimed and life  shamed

Till they cease to be in the run of the mill

 But who cares?

I have not been one to favor these dancing girls as I know much of it like the massage profession seem to fall into the grip of drugs, abuse and prostitution. A dance, after all, usually is enlisted to awaken the senses and is an expression of lovemaking and being tied to such unseemly purposes and ends, I tend to stay away. I do not believe that women should be selling themselves in any form whatsoever.

Well, I care... ...and your verses are a tribute to those dance bar girls who are simply trying to make their way through this life/world. Good work. Love and best wishes,

Regis

A unique insight, well told. Is it that no one cares or that few understand their futile plight? M.True

I didn't know the Indian government was so liberal as to allow this practice. Here in the United States most of these women use the money they make to get ahead or go to college. They usually drop out when they don't see the money coming in anymore. Some have been abused, more so in the past than today. Some fall into drugs and prostitution.

Who cares? I do.

It is the same most everywhere, my friend. Over here we call them pole dancers because they use a shiny pole to enhance their dance. And, like there, most do not wind up with peace and security.
