And so goes the day, the night
Invincible horrors, grief
Belated hope
Gasping for air
It’s too late
He’s gone
Grinding pain
The Earth’s curse
No heaven
No hell
Only unconscious
Before birth and after
On a grid
A make believe planet
A simulation
Of dualism
Our keepers watch
Like a reality TV show
Sadistic beings
Far worse than
Mt. Olympus’s gods
Or Egypt’s ancient ones
This hole
We try to climb out
Only to fall, yet again
Why play this game
It is futile
We live for others
No longer for ourselves
Life rafts
Preventing suicide
A gift from the sky
Or molten core
It doesn’t care
It treats all equally
Indifferent
So we find
Someone to cling to
A boat of rescue
The hurt and lonely
Forgive us all
Endless cruelty
Unending chance
Roll the dice
Flip the coin
It’s all we have
This litany most revealing, consciousness discarded, an amoeba in a petri dish animated by the mystery of life, yet physically and emotionally disenfranchised - how can there not be a cosmic connection more significant than this? M.True
Exceptionally perceptive and skillfully penned. You voice the inevitable conclusion of the driving philosophy of reductive science which has undermined our humanity and left many without hope or purpose. Personally, I think that this philosophy is based on incomplete premises and arrogance and that the disciples of science are drunk on their own egotism. Life has meaning and consciousness is eternal - I'm about to start a book on this matter.
Can't hardly dispute the words to this horror-influenced poem. We have certainly come a long way from grabbing a club and committing mayhem upon the person of the caveman standing next to you.
