A Masters' Stroke


This is not about golf and the professionals who play
Actually it's about beauty and weather and Georgia
As a young player it was my ambition to visit Augusta
during the week of The Masters - I never did make it
But Sunday April 12-09 on a beautiful Easter everything
went right except the best players who fell apart finally
Once again the Nation and the world saw my state
at its very best and I was proud indeed of the weather
the gorgeous flowers the dogwoods blooming and
the song birds of early spring who sang their hearts out
The combination of scenery - bird songs and golf drama
was a show Barnum and Bailey never learned about
In a slow-to-arrive spring CBS fed beauty and song
to a warmth starved land of too much snow and water
By the end of the four day classic my fellow Georgians
and I were equally proud as was the golfer who won a
green jacket and silver trophy but who will remember
In summary it was disjointed golf being played at a
a most satisfying location shared by millions of viewers
