This poem speaks to parents who must elevate the next generation.

You check the ice - You slide

It's fine - Or so it seems

He slides - It's fun -But wait!

There's too much melted ice

At the bottom of the hill

You run - you hide

Save your own skin

What about them?

Save the little ones

You have come of age

Now is the time to implement a plan

To save the offspring

The future holders of this planet

The ones you put in it

You have to become a guardian

You were guarded - so reciprocate!

You were given - so give

You can't just take, take, take!

The little ones - they are wise

One day they'll teach you

See? They already did

They gave you without being asked to

They take shelter in the most unlikely places

Yet it works!

Be able to respond to danger

Don't be a stranger

Keep them from drowning in ice

Do not just save yourself

You gotto sacrifice!

The children need you thou they are resourceful

And can teach you a lesson or two

They still need you - you all need each other

They show you survivor skills

Building shacks high in trees

Living on the edge

You show them survivor skills - avoiding danger

They survived up in the treehouses

And saved your cowardly skin

But they don't have the answer to everything

Just because they are wise beyond their years

Don't mean they will save your neck at every bend!

Well said Mercedes. This poem has so many good points. Our kids are ours for life but they only come close when there is difficulty strife. It's so sad to see them ignore mom and dad. It's as if raising them 20 years of your life was a favor they let you preform. Now that can truly drive one mad!

God Bless You!

Agree with Sandie Angel. Each generation learn from the other. The old pass the torch of knowledge they have learned in the present life and the young come in with knowledge from ancestors passed on to them through genes

Each generation has to survive on its own. The legacy we leave our children should weigh on our hearts because we have wasted so much.

People always have to think about the future of their children, not just themselves. See the present as how their children's lives would be in the future.

Parents do not ceased to being parents when their child moves away, they should be in their lives until the parents die. There is always a bond between parents and child to care for one another. Whatever the olds can learn from the youngs, and whatever the youngs can learn from the olds is called bonding in life, each feeding th other the knowledge they have gained in life. You'll be surprised how much the youngsters know the things that you don't know. Their wisdom speaks for themselves.

it is true. if we don't make a move, might as well say hello to doom.
